About Us, Who we are and Such!

holyhillbilly November 18th, 2007

Hi!  Welcome to the Modesty..the Forgotten Virtue Blog!  Let me tell you about us!  And if you really enjoyed this blog, please feel free to check out my other blog..that delves a little deeper into political issues and day to day life!  http://www.holyhillbillycreations.worpress.com

We are The Davis Family.  There are 4 of us, then there are 5 cats, 1 dog and 2 goats.  We live in a rural Arkansas town and home-school our 2 kids.

Our families look at us rather strange at times…*sigh* Oh well!  We are happy and content with our lives (well, except for the being broke part! LOL!)

Why do we home-school?  Well….we home-school because we love our kids!  We want the best for them! They have what we call a living education!  They learn from our businesses, they learn from the new, from church, from family (that doesn’t realize they are teaching) and from their surroundings.

We are both self-employed!  I own Holy Hillbilly Creations.com and DH owns West-Ark Home Improvements..a local remodeling/repair/construction company.  I specialize in modest clothing and he specializes in decks and cabinets!

We are devout Catholic for those that care…traditional leaning..

We are family oriented..I believe everything should be Christ and home centered!  There is nothing that is more important!

We are rather retro as well.  We love the old classic rock ‘n roll.  Our wedding song was “Wonderful Tonight” by Eric Clapton.   Our kids know the word to songs like “Proud Mary” and “Yellow Submarine”.  They love to develop their own styles and we encourage that!

We have been married 18 yrs and are praying that the Lord will bless us with many, many more years together.

We have 5 cats…a gray and white tom kitten named Smokey, a lovely Siamese mix kitten named Bandit (get the joke there?)  and 2 white short haired it (used to be tom cats) named Blue (for his blue eyes) and Jesse and a beautiful muted Calico named Patches (she is our oldest cat and the most opinionated).  Our dog is a mutt with the tell-tale behavior of a Jack Russell…she is named Ally.   She is the bane of my existence..but the kids love her!  LOL!  The goats are Nigerian Dwarf goats..both wethers and are named Lynyrd and Skynyrd (see a recurring theme with my kids?)

Well, that about covers us..well, not really, but I don’t want to bore you with the long description!

I just wanted to say that I think being a stay at home mom is awesome. I am in the mompack group and read your posting then had to come over and check out your blog. Being a stay at home mom is a rather tough job. The most rewarding career of them all!! I am not able to stay home with my kids due to financial burdens however if given the opportunity I would jump at it. My youngest is 6 and my oldest is 17!! Just today I was looking at my 6 year and thinking wow where did the time go. My oldest daughter was taking her senior pictures for school and my little one was watching with joy. She even took a picture with her older sister in a cap and gown..tooo cute….but it made me realize that even though she is 6, it will all go by so fast and before I know it she will be taking her senior pictures all grown up. I love that you have the opportunity you do and good job. thanks, andrea

My name is Dannah Gresh. I’ve written several best-selling books for teens and tweens including And the Bride Wore White and Lies Young Women Believe. I am focusing the next three years of my life to standing up for tweens specifically in the area of modesty.

    As you may know…
Last year the American Psychological Association unveiled the results of a two year study on the sexualization of girls. The results were stunning! The task force believes that the culture is pressuring little girls to grow up too fast. Specifically, the fashion industry is creating and marketing sexual clothing—in 2003 parents of 7-12 year olds spent $1.6 million on thong underwear—, cosmetic companies are marketing lines to girls as young as FIVE, television is calling for girls to be boy-crazy and more! (I know…you know! But isn’t it great to hear the APA say this!!!???) The APA directly links this to teen eating disorders, depression and early sexual activity. THEN…they link that to women who grow up to be sexually REPRESSED due to their body image issues and sexual scars. (The greatest irony is that the APA actually states that “value and religious instruction” are two of the greatest tools to rescue little girls and ultimately WOMEN!)

I’m calling for 50,000 women to sign my Bod Squad Petition. (At http://www.secretkeepergirl.com where you can also download the entire APA report.) I’ve been interviewed by the global Bible of the fashion industry, Women’s Wear Daily, twice about their concern that the industry as gone too far! With their help, I can present the APA’s survey to fashion leaders and the voice of 50,000 women who want the fashion industry to take responsibility for what they create for tweens and teens and how they market it! We posted the petition three weeks ago and have about 3000 signatures without any promotion. We will get these signatures easily if not more! (I am on track to have 60 modest fashion shows/tween events next year with about 60,000 in attendance. If the worst case scenario results…I’d get the signature at those events.) But we’ll get them faster with help! So, I’m asking for your help!

I’m wondering if you’d be interested in blogging about this?

I’m shamelessly committed to protecting these little girls!

    In His Love

This is my first time here and you sound like a lovely family! I am a homeschooling mom to six children, we have five cats and my daughter fosters cats for an animal rescue! My family looks at us strange sometimes too *sigh*! I am going to go look around. It is very nice to meet you.
