Yesterday was an unusual day. We stayed busy all day! We’ve all had those days…and those days often lead us to forget the important things in life.

I had one of those days…we stayed busy all day..coming and going, getting frustrated at the kids for arguing, upset over the cost of groceries, fuming at rude drivers…not getting it all done…you know..

Then I met a lady…well, actually she called me. It was a recent customer of mine..she called and said that she was so glad to find another homeschooler who she wasn’t scared of…we talked for quite some time…then things got chaotic here and I had to get off the phone..but our conversation stayed with me.

She is a lot like me..trying to follow God’s will and still cope with issues of day to day life. Hmmm..I thought I was the only one! LOL! I knew I wasn’t, but it seems all the families you read about are so PERFECT, that it’s intimidating to get to know them. very few tell of the simple things in life.

Anyway, I digress…the conversation…we talked about the modesty issue and how others react..yet we still do it and still stick by our principles, we talked about headcoverings…which she does…I’m still not there yet, but I know that I will ultimately do what God wishes me to do. We talked about homeschooling techniques and why we do what we do…

Overall, the conversation was ordinary on the outside…but it touched me…God was letting us both know that we are not alone..He’s always with us, but He also guided us together for the common good. Yeah, sounds sappy…but it’s true!

Think about this…how often do you call someone and tell them that you appreciate them? Tell them you respect what they are doing? Take the time today to reach out and let someone know that you respect and appreciate them…it’s hard to take a stand on something and stick by it…so, even if you aren’t into the modesty thing, or the headcovering thing, or the homeschooling thing…support those that are..because they are doing God’s will…and it will touch your life somehow, somewhere! You just wait and see.

Until next time, Peace!

Have you ever thought about what it is to be a Mother? I thought about this last night after tucking my kids into bed..multiple hugs, kisses and “I love you’s” later..they were asleep.

What is it to be a mother? We are the mainstay of a child’s life, from conception until birth. We nurture them, love them, scold them, guide them, love them, teach them, pray for them, pray with them, hold them, hug them, doctor them, wash them, feed them, cloth them and love them some more.

We also learn to wipe tears, bottoms, hands and faces. We learn to let them learn from mistakes, we watch them get hurt and hold them when they cry. We teach them about love and God.

We hold their hands when they need it and let go when they are ready, even if we are not!

We hold our breathe at first steps, then applaud. We cry at baptism and pray for them..we beam at 1st Holy Communion and pray for them some more. We cry at their wedding…and wish them luck as we let them go.

As moms, we are strong and loving, we are firm and gentle, we are soft and sometimes harsh, but always loving. We pray for more patience, and pray that we have taught them enough.

But most importantly, we are to be as much like our Mother Mary as possible…loving unconditional for our children and our God. Always trusting in HIM to know what is right for Them!

So as this day closes, remember what your mothers did for you..your earthly mother cared for you and prayed for you and loved you…and your Heavenly Mother did the same. Let us try to remember them both on this day of Honour for Mothers everywhere!

“Hail Mary, Full of Grace, the Lord is with thee

Blessed Art Thou amongst women and blessed is the fruit of thy Womb, Jesus

Holy Mary, Mother of GOD, Pray for us Now and at the Hour of our Death! AMEN!”

It’s been a long time..I know! However, I have been busy, both in family things and in research and work. Please forgive me for neglecting my writing!

I’ve done a lot of thinking and praying lately and I have found myself revisiting the headcovering issue. I’m not sure that I am called to do so, yet, but God keeps pulling me back to it..perhaps because of the references to obedience and respect. Hmmm…maybe I’m a slow learner!

I am now a full time dress wearing Catholic…boy do I get some looks sometimes!

My daughter is 12 now..and is still very much a child…we don’t allow a lot of the influences that seem to make the other girls her age act about 18..so those have not been problems. She is making the transition to dresses a little more slowly. Most of the time she is wearing them, but we have made compromises on skorts (homemade ones). I found some nice denim shorts that were longer and put knee length skirts over them. She likes them when riding her bike and playing with her brother.

For now, that’s good. She is still very much a little girl at heart without all the teenage “angst” that the other girls her age have, so I’m not worried..she’ll make it there!

I’ll try to keep the blog updated on a more regular basis now, but for now, I must go! Peace and Love!

Where have the skirts gone? I am at a loss as to where they are!

I periodically get away from the kids for a little while..leaving their daddy in charge while mom gets a much needed break. One of my favorite things is to go to Wal-mart (it’s all we have here) and browse…not buy, just browse and walk.

I love to go through the clothing department, noting the new colors for the season and usually eyeing the new selection of long skirts…but alas, as I browsed this time..I suddenly realized …there were no skirts! Well, almost none! I finally found a very few long skirts, tucked on an end cap and then another end cap that sported a very few short (knee length or shorter) skirts. Everything else was pants! Beautiful sweaters and blouses..but no skirts!

Why in our society does the manufacturer think that women want to dress as men? Why wouldn’t they offer more skirts? I suspect I know the answer, but will leave it at that.

Watch your local clothing stores…are their skirts disappearing too?

So, I leave you to ponder..Where have the skirts gone? and ask you to pray harder than ever for the modesty movement..that it may persevere over a society that lacks any respect for women and femininity!

Peace~

Have you ever had one of those moments? You know, those when the heavens open up, the angels sing? Those Ah-Hah! moments?

Most of us have, and I had one this week! Let me tell you about it!

In the last week or so, I have felt a very strong pull to explore headcoverings..not just for mass, but for everyday life. I still am not sure I’m being pulled to actually wear them, but I am being very STRONGLY directed to learn about them! LOL!

Anyway, the other day I was feeling this pull very, very strongly and typed the search query into Google “Catholics and headcoverings”. Well, the results of my find on the actual information I was looking for were mixed and rather disappointing. But the results of my overall search were not!

I read an article that sounded a bit protestant to me, and yet checked out the links at the bottom..one link led to another and before I knew it I had found a very interesting article which led to other articles and answered many of the questions I had been searching for.

The first article was from the Fatima Crusader. The article was titled Modesty In Dress

It was a very eye opening article about some of the reasons why you don’t find any current information about the modesty movement.

Our Lady of Fatima stressed that “Certain fashions will be introduced which will offend My Son very much.” Looking at the state of dress (or undress) in today’s society, I believe that Our beloved Lady was very, very correct.

The question remains, what shall we do about it? I asked our priest..”Is today’s society so far gone and jaded to this state of undress that we won’t be able to affect change?” He answer was a very empathatic NO! All things are possible with Faith! He did stress that in order for me to make a change..even a tiny one..that change has to come from inside my heart.

So, what’s in my heart? Am I really convinced and commited to being modest..in all aspects of my life? Am I really prepared for the sacrifices, the condemnation, the ridicule that will come with standing up for my beliefs? Cassandra says on her website: “Being Catholic today is like having a bull’s eye painted on your chest during hunting season”. She is so right, it’s scary!

So the answer to my own questions…a firm and resolute “YES”. I am at peace with the direction God has pointed me and I will follow it to the best of my ability, with his Grace and Love!

So my question now, what’s in your heart? Don’t you deserve better? Don’t your children deserve to be respected for who they are?

Next post, I’ll have a whole list of links to various websites on both modesty and where to find modest clothing!

Until next time..peace be with you!

I have been very fortunate to have met a wonderful lady named Cassandra Poppe. She has designed and created a wonderful program to teach children how to pray the Rosary and the virtues associated with the Rosary. It is called The Rosary Quilt. I have worked with Cassandra over the past year as she has looked for a publishing company and then worked to get a website up and running for this program. I will be making the actual quilts and will also carry the books. She will carry the books and the quilt kits on her site, Intercessories Family Ministries.

Why do I tell you this? Well, it’s very simple. One of the ways to develop the virtue of modesty is to develop a strong relationship and devotion to our mother Mary. She is the perfect example of modesty for us to look at and follow.

Cassandra has listed a site that has a wonderful article on Modesty in Dress. While Bishop Pivarunas wrote this in 1996, he was right on the money with what he said! Our society is very “anti-modest”. We must take care to teach our young daughters to dress modestly and respect their bodies. We must teach our young sons to respect women, to appreciate them for the beauty within.

Our society is in trouble, so we must stand by our beliefs, uphold our Faith and stand firm in the face of Satan. We cannot give in to popular dress or Satan will win this war.

I’ll be listing more articles and sites to help you in your modesty journey as I find them. In the mean time, check out the above letter and pray on the direction God wants you to take in this!

Peace be with you!

What do you do? Do you know when Satan is interferring with your life? Does he cause doubts and hesitation? That’s his job!

What does this have to do with modesty? Everything! If you are already on this journey, how do you feel when people question your change of dress? How do you feel when you are criticized or called a prude? Do you feel sad? Guilty? Uncomfortable? These are all Satan..he doesn’t want you to be modest..he wants you to dress skimpy..bareing it all.

By causing you to feel inferior or uncomfortable, he establishes doubt! It’s really hard to stand up to today’s society and be different. Just think, though, how hard it was for every saint in history to stand up for their beliefs! They died for what they believed in! Would you go that far for your faith? Most of us would hesitate at going that far..but we should look deeper into our hearts..God is there!

He gives us strength, knowledge and power! All we have to do is align our will with his..be obedient, be servants to GOD! How beautiful is that?

So next time that someone makes you feel inferior or guilty for your choice to be modest..call on GOD..he will be there to strengthen and guide you..he’s just waiting on you!

Peace,

What is modesty? I grew up thinking that is was being a prude..dowdy dresses, long sleeves, long hair, in general FRUMPY!

Was I wrong? Was I right? Well both, sort of! LOL!

Let me explain: Look at the women of the mid to late 1800’s..did they wear pants? Did they hold men’s jobs? What did the community think of those that didn’t dress appropriately? Ladies wore dresses, they tended their homes and families, to wear anything inappropriate (low cut, men’s wear, etc) labeled them either as a “women of ill-repute” or as a “strange women in need of no help”.

Today, what does the general public think of women in general? Women are disrespected on a daily basis, we are given inappropriate clothing and we tell our young daughters that this is the “top of fashion”.

Why do we do that? Why do we encourage short skirts, shorts, tank tops, bikinis, thongs, tight jeans, low cut blouses or dresses, backless clothing, sheer clothes, etc? When did we lose the little voice that says “this is not right”?

Satan acts on us everyday, but we can fight back. In today’s society of “status quo” and the constant battle to be “fashionable and Popular”, Satan is gleeful..he’s jumping up and down with joy! We are not hearing the quiet voice of our Lord and our Blessed Mother Mary tell us that this is NOT right!

The Blessed Mother at Fatima said, “Certain fashions will be introduced which will offend My Son very much. More people will go to Hell because of sins of the flesh than for any other reason.”

Was she right? YES! ABSOLUTELY! Go out in any town, and sadly, in any church (Catholic or not) and you will find the most inappropriate clothing on women.

The danger of this is not just to the soul of the women, but also to the men..for when they see a women half clothed or dressed in suggestive clothing, Satan wins their thougts..he fills their minds with damaging, lustfull thoughts. What are we thinking? As Christian brothers and sisters, we have an obligation to protect not only our own souls, but to do NO harm to anyone elses by our words or deeds!

Deuteronomy 22:5 says: “A woman shall not wear an article proper to a man, nor shall a man put on a woman’s dress; for anyone who does such things is an abomination to the Lord, your God.

So what is modesty? How do we dress modestly? Well, first of all, examine your conscience..you can’t make full changes and hold to them if you can’t stand up to the “ridicule and snobbish remarks”.

To be a modestly dressed woman you should:

Choose dresses that hide the shape of the body, not accentuate it. Dresses should cover the knees when sitting, Blouses should not be low cut, tight or sleeveless. Make sure buttons don’t gap and that you can’t see your bra in the mirror. Start with the obvious things first…ask your husband..if you saw this on a women on the street..what would you think? If it’s not a wholesome thought, then chances are..all those strangers that see you on the street think the same thing!

When dressing your little girl, I have found that long shorts (to the knee) work very well to cover her little behind when she is playing and tumbling as small children will. As she grows, the behavior should become more ladylike and will require the shorts less and less.

Modesty is not just about dress though..it is also about behavior. You must act like a lady, in bearing and language and posture. Sit with your ankles crossed and knees together, speak softly and firmly, not loudly and obnoxiously. Act the way your grandmother or great grandmother probably acted.

Bear in mind that the Virgin Mary is a good example to use in both dress and behavior, properly covered and submissive to the Lord! Don’t you wish we could all be just a little like her?

Until my next post, May the Peace of the Lord be with you!
